「面向北方的方向,是回家的地方」
”Facing toward the North, the place to which I return”

Rahic Talif was born in the Amis Makota’ay village of Hualien in 1962, Taiwan, and currently lives and works in Hualien and Taitung, Taiwan.
He is a professional artist who works in the fields of wood sculpture, installation art, performance art, architecture, furniture, reworking tribal culture, indigenous society and culture etc. Many of Rahic’s works reference aspects of ocean culture and traditional tribal spirit. He has also proved particularly adept at installation art that conveys environmental dialectical thinking on the issue of globalization, as he discusses the collapse of communal structure and major social change, encouraging viewers to reflect on such issues through his own actions and art. He will bring the legend of his tribe to Mt. Nose Myoken and create sculptures on the themes of the moon, sun, and stars.
Rahic, a native of the indigenous Makota’ay Pangcah nation in Taiwan, will install sculptures in the precincts of Mt. Nose Myoken shrine, and will attempt to connect Amis legends with the story of Mt. Nose Myoken. As the traveling stars indicate returning to the roots, and movement of the sun, moon, and stars also represent metaphorical guiding symbols all around the world, he wishes to create something that serves as a guide for the mind. The legend of the Amis says that the brother and sister who got lost at sea and were unable to come home. They found a new land and thrived by planting grains of rice found in their boat. In analogy with this story, he will hold a small tree-planting event at the end of Noseden Art Line 2019, to link his work with the land. This work will grow and change its shape with the changing seasons, and will be loved by people visiting Mt. Nose Myoken for a long time.
