「なべたんの極力直そう around のせでん」
”Let's repair as much as possible around NOSEDEN area”

Tomoya Watanabe was born in Tokyo in 1984 and currently lives in Yamaguchi Prefecture. He graduated from the Information Design Department at Tama Art University in 2006. Using media and technology including computers and the internet as base, he creates installations, video works, wordplay, and essays. Working with human perception, the area newly reclaimed by the Post-Internet Era, he constructs logical and experience-base, completely useless, yet miraculous situations. His transcendental expressions sometimes come with humor and trigger the viewers’ laughter. For Noseden Art Line 2019, Watanabe will take several residential neighborhoods along Noseden (Nose Electric Railway) as his stage and will extensively revive his popular series presented at DDM.MAKE and other platforms. Despite no one requesting him to, he will repair small defects in the neighborhoods by using personal fabrication technology, a three-dimensional printer. Until now he has only been publishing the repair processes and methods on-line. This time, he will put them together into newspaper-like prints, post them on bulletin boards around the neighborhoods, and widely let the residents know about his activity. Through repairing broken parts, Watanabe will try to glimpse characteristics of each new town, which are seemingly similar but different, and possibilities to be involved with the city proactively.
